no-3-phoebeAccording to Audrey Mae’s artistic map diagram and gravestone numbering system, Phebe (née Vaughn) Spencer’s gravestone is Gravestone Number Three. Using a Smith-Corona typewriter in the 1980s, Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biography of Phebe:

Phebe’s burial is in the Spencer cemetery because she was married to Captain John Spencer (Gravestone No.4), the first son of John and Huldah Spencer.  (Audrey Mae, John Edward (“Ed”) and Edith Anna do not descend from Phoebe and Captain John .  The three children  descends from John’s younger brother, Richard Anthony (“Deacon”) Spencer.)

Audrey Mae connects Phoebe and Captain John’s mini-biographies with a connected line and writes an “M” as both husband and wife are buried in the Spencer Family Cemetery.

From Audrey Mae’s notes, we read that Phebe’s twin sister Mary (née Vaughn) married (“Captain”) John’s younger brother, William. (“Captain” John is the first son of Huldah and John; William is the second son of Huldah and John.)

Gravestones No.16-22 in Audrey Mae’s gravestone numbering system are the children of Phebe (née Vaughn) and Captain John.

When web site author was researching her Vaughn ancestry in Vital Records of Rhode Island, 1636-1850, she found a Phebe’s marriage to John.  Could this be the marriage of Phebe (gravestone No. 3) to John (gravestone No. 4)?  Could this be Captain John who is the older brother of Richard Anthony (“Deacon”) Spencer.  According to the below page, Phoebe’s name is spelled the same way as Audrey Mae spelled Phebe’s name. This Spencer Vaughn couple was married July 3, 1808.  More research is needed.
