According to Audrey Mae’s artistically designed cemetery map and Audrey Mae’s gravestone numbering system in her Spencer Family Cemetery, George Spencer’s gravestone is Gravestone Number Sixty. Using her Smith-Corona typewriter in the late 1980s, Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biography of George Spencer, a tenth-generation Spencer in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
Apparently, the infant George Spencer died when he was a baby. Audrey Mae left descendants no other information about this infant. Gravestone No. 61 is of a child, Grace D. Cahoon, who died in 1896–ninety years after George–at age 8 years. Grace has the same last name as George’s mother. The relationship between the baby George and the child Grace is unknown. Spencer descendants do not know the ancestry of Jess Spencer and Anna Cahoon. More research is needed.
Of note is that Audrey Mae’s brother’s, John Edward’s (“Ed’s”), daughter married into the Cahoon line of Coventry, Rhode Island in the middle of the twentieth century. This baby of gravestone number 60 died at the beginning of the nineteenth century. More research is needed on the ancestry of this baby, George Spencer.
