no-19-almeraAccording to Audrey Mae’s artistic cemetery map diagram and Audrey Mae’s gravestone numbering system, Almira’s gravestone is Gravestone Number Eighteen. Using her Smith-Corona typewriter in the 1980s, Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biography of Almira, a seventh-generation Spencer in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.ams-19-almira

Almira is Audrey Mae’s spelling.  Perhaps Audrey Mae spelled the name the way Audrey Mae, a Yankee, pronounced the name. Almira’s gravestone marking show the spelling Almariah.

Bruce MacGunnigle – 30

Almira born in 1825 is the daughter of Captain John (gravestone No. 4) and Phebe (née Vaughn) Spencer.  Captain John is the first son of Huldah (gravestone No. 1) and Patriot John (No. 2) Spencer.  Gravestones 16-22 are the children of Captain John and Phebe (née Vaughn) Spencer.  Captain John and Phebe (née Vaughn) Spencer’s children in the Spencer Family Cemetery are Eliza, Phebe, Harriet, Almira, Matilda, Obediah and Susan:

No. 21 Obediah

According to Audrey Mae’s artistic cemetery map diagram and Audrey Mae’s gravestone numbering system, Obediah’s gravestone is Gravestone Number Twenty-One. Using her Smith-Corona typewriter in the 1980s, Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biography of Obediah, a seventh-generation Spencer in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.ams-21-obediah

Web author does not know what Audrey Mae’s reference to Obediah’s poisoning first mate is all about.  Audrey Mae died in 2007, a couple weeks shy of her ninety-fifth birthday, so the opportunity to ask her is past.  More research is needed.

Bruce MacGunnigle’s book has year of death as 1867 whereas Audrey Mae has 1869.  In 2012 Audrey Mae’s granddaughter was “not able to read” the gravestone inscription. As Audrey Mae, Edith Anna and John Edward (“Ed”) do not descend from Obediah, the exact date is not crucial. Besides, Audrey Mae was an artist and not a typist by trade.

Bruce MacGunnigle – 28

Obediah born in 1821 is the son of Captain John (gravestone No. 4) and Phebe (née Vaughn) Spencer.  Captain John is the first son of Huldah (gravestone No. 1) and Patriot John (No. 2) Spencer. Obediah and six of his sisters are buried in this Spencer Family Cemetery. Gravestones 16-22 are the children of Captain John and Phebe (née Vaughn) Spencer.  Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biographies of Captain John and Phebe (née Vaughn) Spencer’s children, Eliza, Phebe, Harriet, Almira, Matilda, Obediah and Susan:

ams-16-22-elizaphebealmiramatildaobediah-susan_0

Five of Obediah’s sisters died at such young ages and he died at around 48 years.  Audrey Mae did not record the causes of their deaths but noted that their Spencer grandparents died at age 70 and age 89 and their own parents died at age 54 and 74.  More research is needed.

“encer, JohnSpson, Goff and Vaughn descendants, if you have any additional information on Obediah Spencer, please add a comment to this web-site and the web-site editor will add this to the site. Thanks.”

No. 22 Susan Caroline

no-22-susan-carollineAccording to Audrey Mae’s artistic cemetery map diagram and Audrey Mae’s gravestone numbering system, Susan Caroline’s gravestone is Gravestone Number Twenty-Two. Using her Smith-Corona typewriter in the 1980s, Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biography of Susan Caroline, a seventh-generation Spencer in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.ams-22-susan-caroline

Bruce MacGunnigle – 27

Susan Caroline died in her twenty-second year.  Her cause of death is unknown to web author. Spencer lines have longevity, so dying so young is unusual. Susan Caroline born in 1827 is the daughter of Captain John (gravestone No. 4) and Phebe (née Vaughn) Spencer.  Captain John is the first son of Huldah (gravestone No. 1) and Patriot John (gravestone No. 2) Spencer. Susan Caroline and her four sisters and one brother are buried in this Spencer family cemetery.  Gravestones 16-22 are the gravestones of Susan Caroline and her siblings.  Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biographies of Captain John and Phebe (née Vaughn) Spencer’s children, Eliza, Phebe, Harriet, Almira, Matilda, Obediah and Susan Caroline:

ams-16-22-elizaphebealmiramatildaobediah-susan_0

Susan Caroline and four of her sisters died at such young ages.  Audrey Mae did not record the causes of their deaths but noted that their Spencer grandparents died at age 70 and age 89 and their own parents died at age 54 and 74.

As Audrey Mae died in 2007, Web author is unable to ask Audrey Mae what is meant by her comment on Obediah’s (gravestone No. 21) mini-biography about poisoning 1st mate on Bach Susan.  Does that statement refer to this Susan?  More research is needed.

“Spencer, Johnson, Goff and Vaughn descendants, if you have any additional information on Susan Caroline Spencer, please add a comment to this web site and the web site editor will add this to the site. Thanks.”

No. 25 Huldah (born 1814)

According to Audrey Mae’s artistic cemetery map diagram and Audrey Mae’s gravestone numbering system, Huldah’s gravestone is Gravestone Number Twenty-Five. Using her Smith-Corona typewriter in the 1980s, Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biography of Huldah and her siblings, seventh-generation Spencers in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.  Huldah, the daughter of Hezekiah (gravestone No. 15) and Waite, only lived two years.  ams-25-27-huldah-lydia-lucretiaams-28-30-mary-sarah-huldah

Huldah, named after her paternal grandmother, Huldah (née Johnson) Spencer (gravestone No. 1), died as a very young child Web author does not know the cause of death. She was the first of Hez and Waite’s children to be buried in the Spencer Family Cemetery.

Bruce MacGunnigle – 22

In 1825 when her parents had another daughter, they named her Huldah after this sister Huldah who died in 1816. Apparently this was not uncommon as Audrey Mae’s aunt Mandy was named after her sister who had died earlier.

According to Audrey Mae, Hezekiah (gravestone No.15)  and Waite (née Briggs) Spencer had twelve children. Six of their children are buried in this cemetery. Their gravestones are gravestone number 25, 26, 27,28,29 and 30.

Spencer, Johnson, Goff and Briggs descendants, if you have any additional information on the child Huldah Spencer who lived two years, please add a comment to this web site and the web site editor will add this to the site. Thanks.”

Using her Smith-Corona typewriter in the 1980s, Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biography of Lydia, a seventh-generation Spencer in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Lydia, the daughter of Hezekiah (gravestone No. 15) and Waite, died at the young age of fourteen.

ams-26

Lydia died in her teen years, but Audrey Mae didn’t leave any information as to the cause of her death.  Lydia is the second child of Hez and Waite (née Briggs) Spencer to be buried in the Spencer Family Cemetery.

Bruce MacGunnigle – 21

Spencer genealogical records show that if a Spencer lived through infancy, childhood and young adulthood, their chance was good that they would live into their 70s, 80s and even reach 90.  Lydia’s grandfather lived to age 89.  Her grandmother died at 70.

Gravestones 25-30 are the children of Hez and Waite (née Briggs) Spencer.  Hezekiah is the third son of Huldah (née Johnson) and John Spencer (Gravestones No. 1 & 2). Audrey Mae typed the following mini-biography of Huldah, Lydia, Lucretia, Mary, Sarah and Huldah, the seventh generation Spencers in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
